April weather report from Slovenia

DATE and TIME:

THE SKY:
partly cloudy

TEMPERATURE:
15 Celsius / 59 Fahrenheit

WIND:
stronger, from South-West

ANIMALS:
birds heard and seen/plover, black and red ants, bees, bumblebees and other bugs found and seen

PLANTS:
grass is higher and freshly green/tulips seen as well as daisies and dandelions/lilac bush in full blossoms/trees have fresh green leaves/pinetrees and borons are green with shoots/larches are green with newly grown needles

CLOTHES:
long trousers, shirts with long sleaves, tights and skirts, jackets, snickers

GAMES:
football and other games with ball, playing in the playground, running, seek-and-hide game

FAMILY ACTIVITIES:
walking, hiking, biking, trips to coast, turistic farms, sightseeing

Let's clean Slovenia in one day

 On 24th of March an enviromental project for cleaner Slovenia was organised and more than 270.000 volunteers participated in cleaning of towns, villages, woods, rivers, the sea .... Pupils of our school joined the project as well and we cleaned our school surroundings.

In front of our classroom /beside our windows/ in the school yard also 3 young trees (2 tulip trees and 1 maple) were planted to offer some shadow in few years time, so our classrooms, which face South and are usually unbearable hot during spring and summer, will be cooler without using air conditioning.

So don't be surprised because from now on the view from our window will be different :)

March activities

We observed the wind and it was lightly blowing from South - West.

We checked the temperatures on the termometer.

The season of football has begun ;-)

The sun was already so strong that our heads were hot. The ones with dark hair more than the blonds :)

We searched for the sun with our faces. It was lovely to catch the warmth with our cheeks and noses and foreheads ...

Then we went hunting for some animals ...

And we were quite succesful!!

Gardens near our playground were all yellow because of daffodils and primroses:

Magnolias are in full blossoming ...

Near our classroom dandelions started to bloom ...

We also found maple seeds on the ground:

March report from Slovenia

DATE and TIME:
21st of March, 10.00 a.m.

THE SKY:
clear and sunny

TEMPERATURE:
12 Celsius / 54 Fahrenheit

WIND:
light, from South-West

ANIMALS:
birds heard and seen/plover, ants, firebugs, spiders and other bugs found and seen

PLANTS:
grass is still low, dry and brownish-geen/daffodils seen as well as blooming magnolias, forsythias, daisies and dandelions/trees still have no leaves/pinetrees are green ofcourse/larches are still without their needles

CLOTHES:
long trousers, shirts with long sleaves, tights and skirts, jackets, snickers but some of us started to wear short sleeves!!! /mornings are very cold, later on it warms up to 20 degrees Celsius - very unusual for March!)

GAMES:
football and other games with ball, playing in the playground, running, seek-and-hide game

FAMILY ACTIVITIES:
walking, hiking, biking, trips to coast, touristic farms, sightseeing

HOLIDAYS:
8th of March - International Women's Day
25th of March - Mother's Day

School breaks outside

It was sunny and warm (up to 19 degrees Celsius) all week long and we've already forgotten about snow .... Football is #1 again :)

Spring is here

Spring and fresh rain go hand in hand. And that's why we went to our school computer room and each of us draw the solution tool for such days:

What helps us to observe the wind

We have a perfect "windometer" in our school. It is our pinwheel :) On the roof of the school it spins fastly or slowly ... depends on the strenght of the wind. It doesn't show us the direction of the wind though since the wheel is fixed.

This month's report has a light wind and you can check it out on the shot bellow that the wind really wasn't strong at all (seen also on the flags):

February report from Slovenia

DATE and TIME:

TEMPERATURE:
2 degrees Celsius / 36 degrees Fahrenheit

WIND:
very light

ANIMALS:
we heard few birds

PLANTS:
grass and trees are finally covered with snow (only few centimeters)

CLOTHES:
warm clothes with caps, scarves, gloves and warm waterproof shoes

GAMES:
games on the snow - building igloo, making a snowman, throwing snow balls ...

FAMILY ACTIVITIES:
walking, sledding, skiing in skiing resorts

HOLIDAYS:
8th of February - Slovenian Cultural Day
(we stay at home :)
18th of February - Masquerade /Carnival/ Saturday
Winter holidays from 20th - 26th of February

How do animals spend days during winter?

That's what we wanted to tell through our art work:

Eagels fly over the icy mountains searching for some food.

Some birds are fed by people.

Deer has to survive in woods searching for some grass, leaves ...

Fox is wandering around snow as well, hoping to get lucky with a rabbit maybe.

Some birds move to Africa but not owls!

Lynx as well is not sleeping during winter days. His coat gets longer and thicker and lighter to make him warm and not seen in the snow.
